Carter Holt Harvey Building Supplies can provide a range of wood product based structural solutions for commercial buildings.
Portal frame designs constructed using laminated veneer lumber (LVL) have demonstrated in clear-span applications up to 43 meters to have sufficient structural performance to allow use in place of currently accepted commercial framing solutions. In addition to LVL’s natural aesthetics, structural performance during fires and corrosion resistant properties, there is the added advantage that the LVL option “locks in” carbon in the finished product (visit our Environmental Commitment page for more information). LVL can be used in a number of large span portal frame applications such as warehouses, swimming pool buildings, factory buildings and aircraft hangars.
Smaller span buildings for the agricultural sector such as feed sheds, cow sheds and barns.
We can also provide solutions today for low-rise structures such as office and school buildings and are working toward, in the future, being able to provide an alternative to conventional building structures for use in high rise commercial buildings with large span requirements.
We are currently part of a consortium (Structural Timber Innovation Company - STIC) working to develop wood based solutions for high rise buildings that meet the engineering requirements of such buildings but also with a strong environmental performance. We will be rolling out these solutions over the next three years as the research and development progresses.
